✨POV✨: Is it just me or do anxious thoughts get louder at times even when nothing really is going on? How does one even cut through that noise?

Know that catch in your throat when you’re up next for a job interview or to present in front of the class?
Or that uneasiness in your stomach when you receive a text saying “We need to talk”?

Those are pretty normal feelings of anxiety and are signs of anxiety that manifest due to warranted reasons.

But there are times when you wake up completely drained, feeling anxious about everything. With probably zero reasons to be.

This is when your anxiety has manifested as a mental illness.
This is when it's called an anxiety disorder.

But did you know that regardless of the anxiety disorder and its manifestations - understanding your anxiety disorder is the first step to coping?
And changing the narrative by taking control of your thoughts is the next step toward healing.

A closer look at anxiety disorders 🧐

Do your anxious feelings leave you expecting the worst out of any situation?
Do day-to-day life events at home, school, or work for no apparent reason?

This could point to a generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)

If you relate to GAD, chances are that you may also know what the symptoms of panic attack panic disorder are - like an intense outburst of fear such as breathlessness, impending doom, or real danger.
There are other types of anxiety symptoms too - like trouble sleeping or concentrating constant worry, and even physical symptoms like chest pains and heart palpitations.

Then there is social anxiety disorder, a common type of anxiety. (SAD)

This is when you experience extreme fear or experience anxiety in social settings in everyday life, with an overwhelming fear of being watched and judged by people making it feel like a traumatic event.
The symptoms?

Breathlessness, sweating, blushing and fast heartbeat, sometimes chest pain, or regular panic attacks.
These are classic telltale signs of SAD, a particular trigger being low self-esteem, aka social phobia.

Now, to treat your anxiety disorder, it starts by changing your narrative and thoughts.

Thought replacement and positive affirmations for better mental health

Basically, take stock of all the self-deprecating thoughts that affect your mental peace.

We’re talking about all the “I’m not good enough”, and “ I’m a failure” thoughts.

Next, you're going to intentionally interrupt those thoughts, replacing them with truths aka affirmations.
These are positive statements with the intent of self-love and emotional support to promote healthy behavioral changes, helping to get rid of fear and worry.
Incorporate positive affirmations with breathing exercises in daily life for best results.

Here are 4 affirmations for the next time you feel anxious 💪🏽

⏰  For when you wake up anxious: “I feel stressed, but it will pass.”
📚  For when you're anxious before work or school: “There is no obstacle I cannot overcome.”
🔕 For when social situations trigger anxiety: “I feel in control and I'm able to be calm in this new situation."
♥️ For when you need that extra self-love: “I can extend the same kindness to myself that I show my loved ones. I *inhale* acceptance. I *exhale* anxiety."

To conclude 🤗

Changing the narrative in your mind to overcome anxiety disorder symptoms can be a habit.
