✨POV✨: For all those times, anxiety clung on even after work hours - now you know it gets better!

People with anxiety disorders tend to overthink and overanalyze every detail, whether it’s a conversation with the boss or a presentation for a meeting.
They tend to miss out on the here and now, the present.

If you relate to overworking your hours, always being helpful, and staying atop your schedules and tasks, then you're fueled by underlying anxiety.
These little things have the potential to lead to chronic stress.
Here's how that happens in the brain region and central nervous system- the ventromedial prefrontal cortex dampens the blow of anxiety and fearful signals coming from the amygdala that amplify upon reaching the frontal lobe.
And when this part runs on fumes, our fear response is triggered, and we experience anxiety.

Anxiety disorders: types and physical symptoms 🥶

So, anxiety disorders are commonly four types - this is because there are different life events and genetic and environmental factors that contribute to specific symptoms (or any mental health condition).

👉🏽  Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)

Generalized anxiety disorder is when we experience severe anxiety and worry that stops us from being able to carry on, say, with regular tasks at work.
You experience anxiety symptoms or physical conditions like muscle tension, brain fog, and difficulty concentrating.

👉🏽  Panic disorder

Panic disorder is when our negative thought processes lead to heart palpitations and excessive worry, leading to breathlessness and chest pain, causing panic attacks.

These thoughts may have stemmed from past traumatic events that convince you it will happen again.

👉🏽  Social anxiety disorder

You experience rapid heartbeat and overwhelming worry of "what if things go wrong" to the point where you avoid social settings - chances are it points to SAD.
It can also manifest as a physical illness like irritable bowel syndrome.

👉🏽  Post-traumatic stress disorder

This stems from past traumatic experiences (PTSD symptoms) that now induce your anxiety via stress hormones.
This response tends to cling on to become a stress disorder, another common anxiety disorder.

Three ways to manage anxiety at work 🥰

📌  Visual planning

Break down your work hours and set mini-deadlines for your to-do lists.

With being, you get to make this a mindful habit!

🚦  Reaffirm boundaries

Know that setting your boundaries only shows people how you should be respected and loved.
Let people know how much you can accommodate and where the brim is.
Speaking up for your need helps people understand you better, making work and communication more accessible and more transparent.
Or let being guide you through this; check: I feel like my work-life boundaries have blurred.

Before we wind up,

Several things like our negative thoughts can contribute to anxiety at work - all you need to know is that support is out there.
With a bit of compassion and self-love, you can manage anxiety.
